Jerez de la Frontera is one of the major original sources of flamenco and the history of the city is therefore very closely linked to the art form. Not in vain is the capital of sherry wines the city which has produced the greatest number of flamenco performers: from Tío Luis El de la Juliana, the first known flamenco singer in history, or Antonio Chacon, to present day artists such as José Mercé, Moaraíto, Paco Cepero, Gerardo Nuñez, Antonio El Pipa and a long etcetera. The highlight of the year comes each September with the Fiesta de la Bulería.
This combination of Spanish Language and Flamenco Guitar or Dance sessions with prestigious local artists such as Manuel Lozano “El Carbonero”, Juan Parra or Maria del Mar Moreno, plus visits to symbolic flamenco sites around the city is undoubtedly the best way to achieve a true understanding of the flamenco spirit:
